On the latest PSB Podcast, co-founder Logan Kosmalski talked with Swarthmore College head coach Landry Kosmalski. Swarthmore, fresh off of a run to the NCAA DIII national championship game, has experienced a dramatic rise in the success of their program over the last 7 years.

Coach Kosmalski talks about the struggles of taking over a program that had not experienced much success in the previous decades. Handling failure and frustration, establishing a new culture and recruiting to one of the highest academic schools in the country are all covered in this episode.

Off-season in basketball is a period of downtime for basketball players. Some players use this time to rest from a very rigorous season, while some use this time to recover from an injury sustained during a game. Most players, however, use this time to improve their basketball fundamentals and skills.

 

Off-season is the best time to get ahead of the game. Some players dedicate themselves to comprehensive training in order to be ready for the upcoming season and improve their skills.

 

There are several ways a player can train and showcase an improvement in their skills and techniques when preparing for the next season.

 

Your off-season basketball workout may include training in terms of speed, agility, strength, focus and accuracy. These things are outside of what you may need from a basketball fundamentals standpoint, but are still very important to improving your game.

What is a Mouthguard?

A Mouthguard is a dental appliance that acts like a cushion made of high-grade dental plastic material that protects the teeth, mouth and jaw. A protective mouthguard should be comfortable, resilient, tear-resistant, durable and easy to clean.  

It should not restrict speech or breathing and should fit properly.  In basketball, communication plays an important role to effectively exhibit teamwork and win games.  

Players communicate when they need to pass the ball, assist a co-player, yell when he or she is open, or thank a team mate for a good play.  Hence, a mouthguard should be a perfect fit for it not to be a hindrance for good team play and communication.

Ever dreamed of being a collegiate or professional basketball player?

If so, this is a dream you share with many other young boys and girls who work and train hard at summer camps and clinics to improve their basketball skills.

Basketball, much like any other skill, takes a lot of dedication, time and practice.  

I had to learn this at a very young age before eventually playing DI basketball at Davidson College.

If you want to become a great basketball player, you have to start honing basic basketball skills and fundamentals, in this case, dribbling and ball handling, which are used interchangeably despite being two different skills, are two of the most important basketball skills you need to become a good basketball player.
