Andrew excelled on the basketball court at Carlynton High School (Carnegie, PA) where he started on the varsity team for 4 years and finished his stellar high school career ranked in the top 10 in school history in points, rebounds, and blocked shots.
Following high school, Kurzawski passed on a number of athletic scholarship offers to enter the Catholic Seminary at St. John’s University (Queens, NY) where he earned a bachelor’s in pre-law (philosophy) in 2007. He then went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree in 2013.
While in graduate school at St Vincent, he began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant working with the Men’s and Women’s basketball programs. Following graduation, Kurzawski continued in coaching with stops at Carlow University, Penn State Beaver, and most recently, Point Park University.
In 2016, Andrew founded Gym Rat Performance Training – a Pittsburgh basketball training, strength/conditioning, and personal training company to help athletes of all ages achieve their sports and physical goals. He has worked with athletes starting at the youth levels all the way to the pro ranks having prepared a number of competitors for professional combines.
Andrew was previously the head varsity girls’ coach at McGuffey High School but recently moved on to be head varsity girls’ coach at Aquinas Academy. In his spare time, he enjoys dining around Pittsburgh with his wife and son, keeping up with WPIAL high school sports as well as small college sports in the tri-state area.
Our Club Teams typically run 8–11 months depending on the city. Families can expect 2–3 practices or workouts per week and 2–3 weekends per month with games or tournaments. We believe in long-term development, not quick-hit seasons.
We support multi-sport athletes! Many of our players compete in soccer, football, baseball, and more. Just let us know your schedule, and we’ll work together to find the best fit — whether that’s a Club Team or placement in our Player Development Academy with more flexibility.
We offer flexible payment plans in every city. In some locations, limited scholarship or financial aid options may also be available. Reach out to us directly to learn more — we’re here to help.
Not every player is placed on a Club Team, but no one gets left behind. Through our Player Development Academy (PDA), athletes receive structured training, weekly practices, and internal game play — with the opportunity to be reevaluated for a Club Team during the year.
In most cities, we host open clinics, camps, or evaluation sessions prior to the start of the season. These are great opportunities to experience our coaching and culture firsthand. Reach out to your local director to see what’s available near you.
