 Portrait of Zach Washut

Zach Washut, Co-Director

Coach Washut enters his 14th year coaching High School Basketball and his 8th as head coach at Cactus Shadows. In 2022, he became the all-time winningest head coach in Falcon basketball history and surpassed the 100 win mark in the process. The past seven seasons have been record setting as the Varsity Falcons have amassed a 120-57 record during that time.

His teams have been highly efficient on offense and have learned to play tough team defense during his time. As Head coach or assistant to Varsity, his teams have reached the state playoffs 13 of his 14 seasons, including a trip to the final four in 2013.

Overall, this will be the 17th year Coach Washut has either been coaching or in operations of a basketball program. From 2004-2006, he worked for the men’s basketball program and hall of fame Coach Lute Olson at the University of Arizona. Coach graduated from The University of Arizona in 2006. He has been working in healthcare account services and operations since graduating.

His wonderful wife Shayna is a huge fan who rarely misses a game. Their family includes their two sons, Ryder & Hudson. They live in Cave Creek where, outside of basketball, they enjoy hiking, family time, and trying new restaurants. Coach Washut is also an avid golfer, enjoys fishing and the outdoors.

FAQs

Our Club Teams typically run 8–11 months depending on the city. Families can expect 2–3 practices or workouts per week and 2–3 weekends per month with games or tournaments. We believe in long-term development, not quick-hit seasons.

We support multi-sport athletes! Many of our players compete in soccer, football, baseball, and more. Just let us know your schedule, and we’ll work together to find the best fit — whether that’s a Club Team or placement in our Player Development Academy with more flexibility.

We offer flexible payment plans in every city. In some locations, limited scholarship or financial aid options may also be available. Reach out to us directly to learn more — we’re here to help.

Not every player is placed on a Club Team, but no one gets left behind. Through our Player Development Academy (PDA), athletes receive structured training, weekly practices, and internal game play — with the opportunity to be reevaluated for a Club Team during the year.

In most cities, we host open clinics, camps, or evaluation sessions prior to the start of the season. These are great opportunities to experience our coaching and culture firsthand. Reach out to your local director to see what’s available near you.
