Richmond, VA · Boys grades 3 to 11, girls grades 4 to 11Pro Skills Basketball (PSB) Richmond runs youth club basketball teams for boys and girls in the Richmond, VA area. Club team memberships run 5 to 11 months, with 2 to 3 practices a week plus games and tournaments. Open tryouts are listed below. Welcome to Pro Skills Basketball (PSB) Richmond. Our club teams are coached by experienced, trained coaches who focus on each player’s growth, not just on winning championships.
Our mission is to prepare players for the next level of basketball and to teach life lessons that lead to success off the court. We teach skills for basketball, skills for life and skills for success.

Join a teamTryouts and evaluations in Richmond
Tryouts are closed right now, but evaluations are open. If a team has an open spot for your player’s grade, your player can join a team practice and be evaluated for that spot. Fill out the interest form and a PSB staff member will reach out to set it up.
How the year works
- Spring tryouts: late January through early April, depending on the city. This is when most teams are formed.
- Fall tryouts: August and September.
- Evaluations: at team practices, the rest of the year, while teams are playing, to fill open spots.

AAU basketballLooking for AAU basketball in Richmond?
Many families call youth club basketball “AAU basketball.” The name comes from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), a national organization that runs youth sports events. Over time, “AAU” became the everyday word for any competitive travel basketball team that plays outside of school.
PSB Richmond club teams are what most families mean when they search for AAU basketball, AAU teams or AAU tryouts near them: tryouts, teams grouped by grade and skill, weekly practices with trained coaches, and games and tournaments through the season.
PSB is an independent club program. It is not part of the Amateur Athletic Union, so we call our teams club teams. See upcoming Richmond tryouts above, or fill out the interest form.

Rasheed Wright, Director
Rasheed grew up in Greensboro, NC and went on to play college basketball at Old Dominion University, where he had a stellar career.
After college, Rasheed played for 13 years professionally in France before retiring and moving back to the Richmond, VA area, where he joined PSB in 2019.
Rasheed also assumed the role of head coach for the Manchester High School girls’ basketball program and, over the course of five years, has guided the team to two state championship appearances, securing one title. These achievements mark the first state championships in the school’s history. As a result of his exceptional leadership, Rasheed was honored with the 2024 State, Regional, and Richmond Metro Coach of the Year awards.
He lives with his wife, Rebecca, and 4 daughters in Midlothian, VA.
Kristin Clay, Program Manager
Kristin Clay is the Program Manager for PSB Richmond. A Virginia Beach native, Kristin played for Boo Williams, Granby High School and Hampton University, then graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Kristin began coaching with her former high school and AAU program and has more than 14 years of experience developing athletes in grassroots and independent basketball. Kristin has also worked in program management and operations with Cerebrel Sports Management and HBA.

Is PSB an AAU team?
PSB runs club teams, which many families call AAU basketball. PSB is an independent club program and is not part of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Our club teams offer what families look for in AAU basketball: tryouts, trained coaches, weekly practices, and games and tournaments through the season.
When are PSB tryouts?
Spring tryouts run from late January through early April, depending on the city. This is when most teams are formed. Fall tryouts run in August and September. The rest of the year, players can be evaluated at a team practice when a team has an open spot.
What is an evaluation?
An evaluation is a tryout for one open team spot. Your player joins a team practice, and the coaches see if that team is a good fit. Fill out the interest form to ask about an evaluation in your city.
What’s the commitment level?
Club team memberships run 5 to 11 months, depending on the city. Families can expect 2 to 3 practices or workouts a week, and games or tournaments on 2 to 3 weekends a month. We believe in long-term development, not quick seasons.
What if my player plays other sports?
We support multi-sport athletes. Many PSB players also play soccer, football, baseball and more. Tell us your schedule and we will find the best fit, either a club team or a Player Development Membership (PDM), which has more flexibility.
What if we can’t afford the full fee?
Every city offers payment plans. Some cities also have limited financial aid for club team memberships. Contact us to learn more.
What if my player doesn’t make a team?
Not every player is placed on a club team, but no one gets left behind. A Player Development Membership (PDM) gives players a monthly package of PSB clinics, camps and/or academies, so they keep getting better. Players can also be evaluated for an open team spot during the year.
Can my player try a practice before committing?
In most cities, PSB runs open clinics, camps or evaluation sessions before the season starts. They are a great way to experience our coaching and culture. Contact your City Director to see what is available.
