About PSB Nashville AAU Teams

Thank you for visiting the official website of Pro Skills Basketball (PSB) Nashville, Tennessee’s premier competitive basketball club.

General

Pro Skills Basketball (PSB) AAU club teams are for intermediate to advanced level players. Each team is led by experienced and knowledgeable local coaches and are dedicated to the development of the individual players, not winning championships. We stress hard work and dedication over talent, and teamwork over individual play.

Our directors and coaches stress our “F.O.C.U.S.” acronym of life lessons to our players, which stands for Fun, Overcome, Compete, Unity, and Sacrifice. Through these life lessons, we believe that our players are learning lessons that will help them be successful in anything the do, whether on the court or off.

Leadership

PSB Nashville is directed by former Western Kentucky player and current PSB Nashville Director, Lem Dozier. Lem is assisted by General Manager, Malik Mims, and Manager, DeVonte Cobb.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to prepare our players for the next level of their basketball careers, whether that be elementary, middle, high school, or college, while simultaneously teaching them important life lessons that will lead to success in anything they do off the court as well.

PSB’s vision is to change the win-at-all-costs, negative youth basketball environment to a more healthier, more positive environment through a focus on teaching, coaching, and learning.

General

The PSB Nashville AAU team membership is 11 months long from late March-February. Tryouts are held in late February/early March. The spring/summer season runs from April – July. There are occasional skill workouts in August. The fall/winter season runs from September – February.

See below for specific season info!

PSB Spring/Summer Club Season Denver, CO

Spring/Summer Season

The spring/summer season is our “main” competitive basketball season which includes mandatory team practices and tournaments/leagues.  For our 2nd grade team, they will only practice during this season and have no games.  For our 3rdd-8th grade teams, they practice and play from April-June. In July or August, these players will have the option to attend one summer camp as part of the team membership and participate in occasional team skill workouts. For our 9th-11th grade teams, they practice and play from April-July, but there are no tournaments in June as that is also when players will be participating with their high school teams.

Teams will practice 3 hours a week. Teams in grades 3-8 will play in JAM league in April and May and 2-3 tournaments in June (could include one travel tournament to Wichita, KS).  High school teams will play in 1-3 tournaments per month.  Second-grade teams do not play games in the spring/summer season. They only practice in order to prepare for the fall/winter season when they’ll begin to play games.

We understand occasional conflicts, vacations, other commitments, etc., but players must commit to all months of the membership regardless. Note: Teams will be off for standard holidays such as Spring Break, Easter, etc.

PSB Fall/Winter Club Season Denver, CO

Fall/Winter Season

The fall season will begin in September and run through October.

Teams in grades 3-8 will have normal team practices for 3 hours (split into 2 sessions) during the week and play in league games mainly on Sunday’s.  High school teams have group skill workouts on weekends and will have some guest coaches/trainers brought in for occasional mini-camps.

Fall workouts will be a sort of “pre-season” style geared to prepare players for their upcoming school tryouts while winter workouts will be of the “in-season” style to keep the skills, such as shooting and ball handling, sharp that are normally overlooked during the school season.

In the winter (November-February), teams in grades 3-8 will have combined grade skill sessions multiple times per week.  Teams will participate in a combination of leagues and tournaments (depending on age and level) in these months.  See the Policies and Procedures Handbook for more specific info in that regard.

In the winter for high school players, we will have Sunday workouts centered around shooting and ball-handling (with no live scrimmaging).

We understand occasional conflicts, vacations, other commitments, etc., but players must commit to all months of the membership regardless.

Financial Aid

It is our policy to provide basketball opportunities to players regardless of financial circumstances. In order to provide players with these opportunities, we offer a limited amount of need-based financial assistance to youth participants meeting the guidelines listed here.

If you would like to apply for financial assistance, please fill out our financial aid form here and email or mail a copy of the official school lunch program letter. For any questions, please email us at info@proskillsbasketball.com or call us at 866-996-3888.

FAQ

What is PSB about?

We believe that basketball, like every youth sport, should be used as a vehicle to teach young people life skills like dedication, teamwork and overcoming adversity. We also believe that basketball is a great tool to keep kids active and physically healthy.

What are your PSB Club Teams?

Our Club Teams take our focus on skill development combined with life lessons and put them into a competitive team environment for kids of intermediate to advanced skill level. You can click here to learn more and find teams near you!

Who are PSB Directors and Coaches?

All PSB Directors are former or current high level coaches and/or players. You can read more about them here. Coaches are hand picked by PSB Directors based on very specific criteria. Directors and coaches must pass background checks and must abide by strict PSB standards. We recognize the importance of who teaches our children and that it’s not something to be taken lightly.

Are club teams offered in every city?

No, it depends on the city. Simply check out our Club Teams page here to see if teams are offered in your city.

How do I join a Club Team?

We hold tryouts! Typically, the tryouts are held in late January, throughout February, and/or early March.

Does it cost to tryout?

There is a tryout fee that varies per location. Please see your city team page for specific fees.

Are Club Teams competitive?

It is the goal of PSB to field competitive Club Teams, but our focus is not winning championships. While all Club Teams will play in competitive tournaments and/or leagues, the competitive level of each team varies from team to team and season to season. As long as our players and teams get better, have fun, and learn life lessons, we feel we have accomplished our mission!

Does everyone that attends tryouts make the team?

We limit our teams to at most 10 players, and in some cases, 2 practice players who only practice and do not play.

Are PSB club teams age or grade based?

We categorize our teams based on the grade the players are in at the time of tryouts.

What are the ages/grades of the teams?

PSB offers teams from 2nd-11th grade, but each location may differ. Please check the Policies and Procedures Handbook on your nearest city team homepage for the grades of teams offered.

How many club teams do you have per grade?

PSB expects to field 1-3 teams per grade for each location. If there are enough players at tryouts to create multiple teams in a single grade and location then the teams will typically be created according to skill level. We believe this gives players of different skill levels the opportunity to maximize their practicing and playing time, and thus, their improvement.

Do you have girls club teams?

Yes! We are excited to offer girls club teams in some locations. Please check the Policies and Procedures Handbook on your nearest city team homepage to see if girls teams are offered in your area.

What is a PSB membership?

A PSB membership is an 8-month or 11-month commitment, depending on the city, and includes practice gym time, tournament/league entry fees, coaches salaries, and more. It does not include any travel or team gear/uniforms. Please check the Policies and Procedures Handbook on your nearest city team homepage for all the information on the membership.

How much does it cost to be on a club team?

PSB recognizes that competitive basketball is an investment in your athlete’s development, on and off the court. Costs vary per location. Please check the Policies and Procedures Handbook on your nearest city team homepage for specific investment information.

Is a gear package and uniform included in the membership?

No. Each player will be required to purchase a gear package that includes a uniform before every season.

Do you all offer financial assistance for the teams?

Yes! PSB has a limited amount of aid available. PSB bases our financial aid model off the public school “free/reduced price lunch” program. To apply, players must fill out the application on our website here. Also, email admin@proskillsbasketball.com for more information.

How many times a week do the teams practice?

In the spring/summer, our teams will have 2 mandatory practices per week. Practices will be between 5-9pm at a local gym Monday-Thursday and repeat same day, time, and location each week. For the fall season or fall/winter season (depending on location) there will only be a few team practices. Instead, PSB will run optional skill workouts every week in which players can choose to attend as many or as few as they wish.

When are the games?

Leagues and tournaments will typically take place Friday evening through Sunday afternoons on the average of twice a month, but this varies by city. At the beginning of each season, we do our best to provide a tentative schedule for our families.

Does everyone on the team get to play in each game?

All players will get an opportunity to play in games, but the coach will determine the amount of playing time by those players that give the team the best chance to compete and/or win. Players will not simply be given playing time; they must earn it in practice and games.

Do Club Teams travel?

Most of our Club Teams do not travel, especially the elementary and middle school teams. These teams may travel occasionally to another city within reasonable driving distance, but they mostly play local events. Our high school teams do travel when necessary for recruitment or competition purposes. This occasionally requires hotel stays, and every once in a while, a plane flight as well.

Does PSB help with college recruiting?

As a member of PSB high school teams, players do receive help with college recruiting. However, for more intensive help and instruction, we have a Recruiting Consultancy that offers families peace of mind and the comfort of having well-informed guidance throughout the college basketball recruiting and selection process. Find out more about what our Recruiting Consultancy has to offer here.
