Ben Martinez is a seasoned basketball coach with 18 years of experience, following a distinguished playing career at both the high school and collegiate levels. As a student-athlete at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, he excelled in basketball and baseball, earning all-Union County and all-Watchung Conference honors as a senior captain. At Montclair State University, Martinez was a two-year co-captain, leading his team to a conference championship and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament, where he was named to the All-NCAA Sectional team.
Transitioning to coaching, he began as a varsity assistant at his alma mater, contributing to the schoolโs first and only state championship and later guiding the team as head coach to a rare state sectional championship appearance. Martinez has been instrumental in developing top talent, including the schoolโs all-time leading scorer and several athletes who advanced to collegiate sports. From 2012 to 2022, he served as the Menโs Basketball Assistant Coach at Stevens Institute of Technology, helping secure two conference championships and mentoring multiple all-conference players, including two conference players of the year and an All-American.
His expertise encompasses recruiting, player development, scouting, and academic support, establishing him as a well-rounded leader in basketball coaching.
